Mount Brydges, in plain words
The municipality calls Mount Brydges a historic village in the heart of Strathroy-Caradoc, with tree-lined streets and charming architecture, and that's a fair description of it. It sits between Strathroy and London, with Highway 402 just to the north and Longwoods Road to the south, so it's a natural fit for people who work in the city and want a village to come home to.

Pioneer settlement here began in 1829. The village really grew once the Great Western Railway arrived in 1853, and it became a major shipping point for the farms around it. It was known as Carradoc until 1856, when it took its current name from two men: the surveyor Colonel Roswell Mount and Charles J. Brydges, the railway's general manager. Mount Brydges was declared a village in 1906, and since 2001 it has been part of the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc, after the Town of Strathroy and the Township of Caradoc joined.
The village has an active Business Association, its own library branch, a handful of parks and an arena, and the municipality publishes a heritage walking tour of thirteen of its historic buildings. It's a good afternoon's walk if you're getting to know the place.
Melbourne
Melbourne is the small village in the southernmost part of the municipality, along historic Longwoods Road. It was first registered in 1858 as "Melbourn Village". A municipal boundary runs right through it: the eastern half is in Strathroy-Caradoc and the western half is in Southwest Middlesex, so two properties on the same street can answer to two different town halls. Melbourne has its own Middlesex County Library branch and its own fairgrounds, owned by the Melbourne Agricultural Society, which runs the annual Melbourne Fair.
The country in between
Around both villages is the farm country of the old Caradoc Township, with crossroads like Campbellvale, Glen Oak and Longwood. The municipality points visitors to the views along the Caradoc moraine and the bluff over the Thames River valley, and to Ska-Nah-Doht Village at the Longwoods Road Conservation Area, a recreated longhouse village of the kind people lived in about a thousand years ago. Chippewas of the Thames First Nation and Oneida Nation of the Thames border the municipality, and the Tri-Township Arena in Mount Brydges is run in partnership with the Chippewas of the Thames.

Council Watch
Mount Brydges is a village of homes on tree-lined streets, as the municipality puts it, with farm and country properties all around it. Inside the Mount Brydges settlement area you're on municipal water and sewer through the Strathroy-Caradoc system, and hydro comes from Entegrus; outside it, Hydro One supplies power and the house runs on its own well and septic system. Natural gas is Enbridge.

Melbourne has its own settlement-area map, published by the municipality, but it isn't on the municipality's list of communities with municipal water and wastewater. If you're buying there, find out what the property is on (well, septic, or a shared system) and make the testing and inspection part of the offer.
The municipality publishes settlement-area maps for Strathroy, Mount Brydges, Melbourne, and Campbellvale with Delaware West. If you're looking at a lot near the edge of a village, those maps are the first thing I'd check, because zoning, servicing and what you can build change at that line.
In Melbourne, the other thing to check is which municipality the house is in. The boundary runs through the village, so confirm it before you plan a garage, a severance or a second unit.
What's being built
We read Strathroy-Caradoc's council and committee agendas and publish what's in them. A stage lights up only when there's a dated agenda item behind it, and every file links to the municipality's own record. Agendas last pulled August 11, 2026.

Every street has its own price.
- 01It's the village closest to London on the Strathroy side. Exit 82 puts you on the 402 heading east, and the County Connect bus stops in the village if you'd rather not drive.
- 02The trails are the best-kept secret. Ten kilometres at Longwoods Road, plus Mill Stream just east of the village. Walk them in every season before you decide you don't need a big yard.
- 03In Melbourne, find the boundary first. The line between Strathroy-Caradoc and Southwest Middlesex runs through the village, and it decides who sets your taxes and rules.
- 04Village lot or country lot are two different purchases. In the village you're on municipal water and sewer. A few minutes out you're on a well and septic, and the right inspections belong in the offer.
- 05Every street has its own price. A sale on the far side of the village won't necessarily hold on yours. I'll show you the sales behind the number.
